Study on the relationship between Plasma FGF-23, Galectin-3 levels and anemia in patients with chronic Heart failure

Abstract:
      Objective: Anemia has an important impact on the prognosis of patients with heart failure. The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between plasma FGF-23 and Galectin-3 levels and anemia in patients with chronic heart failure. Methods: after the approval of the ethics committee of our hospital, the patients with chronic heart failure hospitalized in our hospital from May 2018 to March 2019 were taken as the subjects of the study. After excluding nausea tumor, gastrointestinal bleeding, patients with hematological diseases and renal failure, the routine blood biochemical indexes and the levels of FGF-23 and Galectin-3 in plasma were measured. Male patients with HB < 120g/L were used as anemia group and female patients with HB < 110g/L as anemia group. Results:A total of 95 patients, 60 males and 35 females, aged 68.4?4.28 years, were enrolled in the study. There were 47 cases of anemia group and 48 cases of normal group. Comparison between the two groups: there were significant differences in FGF-23, Galectin-3, urea nitrogen, cystatin C and creatinine between the two groups. (334.83?50.84 pg/ml VS 256.3?64.6 pg/ml,t=6.58;48.79?12.32 pg/ml VS 42.04?10.16 pg/ml,t=2.91;9.7?4.15 mmol/L VS 7.12?2.70 mmol/L,t=3.60;1.6?0.86 mg/L VS 1.15?0.35 mg/L,t=3.3;97.96?38.82 umol/L VS 76.53?21.81; p<0.01). Correlation analysis: HB was negatively correlated with FGF-23, Galectin-3, urea nitrogen, cystatin C and creatinine. (r=-0.470、-0.379、-0.330、-0.319,-0.282,p<0.01)。Multivariate logistic regression analysis suggested that: FGF-23(OR=1.02, 95%CI1.01-1.03,P<0.01)、Galectin-3(OR=1.05, 95%CI1.004-1.102,P<0.05)、Urea nitrogen(OR=1.235, 95%CI1.03-1.481,P<0.05)was an independent risk factor for anemia. ROC curve analysis showed that FGF-23 had a good diagnostic value for anemia. Conclusion: The levels of FGF-23 and Galectin-3 in plasma of patients with chronic heart failure ware negatively correlated with HB. Plasma levels of FGF-23, Galectin-3 and urea nitrogen ware independent risk factors for anemia in patients with chronic heart failure.
